Israeli police killed 2 Palestinians in Hebron after alleged stabbing attempt

Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian near the illegal Beit Hadassah settlement in Hebron in the second alleged stabbing attack in the city on Thursday.

Witnesses said that the incident took place in Shuhada Street nearby the settlement.

A Palestinian woman in the area at the time said that she “heard gunshots and saw Israeli soldiers and settlers firing at a young Palestinian man while he was walking down a staircase,” adding that she did not see anything in his hands.

The Israeli army said in an initial report that a “Palestinian assailant” attempted to stab an Israeli soldier “at a security post in Hebron” before being shot on site.

No Israeli injuries have been reported.

The Palestinian was identified as Farouk Abdel Qader Omar Sidr, 19, from Hebron.

Hours before, a 23-year-old Mahdi Mohammad Ramadan al-Muhtasib was shot dead by an Israeli border policeman near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron after an alleged attack on an Israeli soldier.

A soldier received light injuries to his face before the suspect was shot dead on scene, according to reports by Israeli media that were disputed by eyewitnesses who said a soldier dropped a knife next to his dead body.

Following Thursday’s second alleged attack, a Palestinian resident said that “Israeli soldiers have been threatening to kill us if we don’t evacuate Shuhada Street.”

Israeli soldiers and settlers stormed the home of Mufid Sharabati located on the street shortly after the second Palestinian was killed, a Ma’an reporter said, adding that a number of activists were present at the home during the raid.

A lawyer for the Independent Commission of Human Rights, Farid al-Atrash, said: “A group of armed settlers attacked the house under protection of Israeli soldiers.”

He and a group were in the home at the time after being chased by Israeli soldiers after attempting to access the scene of the second alleged attack.

Beit Hadassah, where Thursday’s second alleged attack took place, was the first of four illegal settlements to be established in downtown Hebron.

They are home to over 500 Israeli settlers who are protected by thousands of armed Israeli forces who regularly clash with Palestinian locals living in the area.

Well over ten Palestinians have been killed in the Hebron district this month, five of whom were children.

Over 60 Palestinians have been killed this month as rights group call for Israel to halt “unlawful” killings of Palestinians who have not posed a great enough threat at the time of their death for the deliberate use of force to be permissible by Israeli forces.

Saudi Presence in Syria Talks "Suspicious, Illegitimate"

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi blasted Saudi Arabia for massacring the Yemeni nation and supporting the terrorists in Syria, and stressed that the Riyadh government with such a dark record should not be allowed to take part in the Vienna talks on Syria.

“The Saudi regime with its all-out support for the ISIL and its terrorist acts in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon as well as numerous crimes, including its attacks on hospitals, schools and people’s homes, is a war criminal and its presence in the Vienna multilateral talks is, thus, suspicious and illegitimate,” General Firiouzabadi said on Thursday.

He, meantime, warned the Saudi regime against execution of senior Shiite Cleric Sheikh Nimr Baqer al-Nimr, and said, “Harsh repercussion will be waiting for the Saudi rulers” if they take such an unwise move.

Top diplomats from Iran, Russia, the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Turkey will convene in Vienna on Friday to discuss the Syrian crisis.

Nimr was attacked and arrested in the Qatif region of Eastern Province in July 2012, and has been charged with undermining the kingdom’s security, making anti-government speeches, and defending political prisoners. Nimr has denied the accusations.

In October 2014, a Saudi court sentenced Sheikh Nimr to death, provoking huge condemnations and criticism in the Middle East and the world.

On October 25, Nimr’s family confirmed that the Saudi Supreme Court and the Specialized Appeals Court had endorsed a death sentence issued last year against him for inciting sectarian strife and disobeying King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The cleric has denied the charges.

The Shiite cleric’s lawyer, Sadeq al-Jubran, has also said that Nimr could be executed as soon as the Saudi monarch approves his sentence.

Human rights organizations have condemned Saudi Arabia for failing to address the rights situation in the kingdom. They say Saudi Arabia has persistently implemented repressive policies that stifle freedom of expression, association and assembly.

Symbolic caravan of Imam Hussain moved to the city of Istanbul, Turkey

A symbolic caravan of Imam Hossein (PBUH) moved into the city of Istanbul, Turkey, to remind people of Imam Hossein’s martyrdom in Karbala over 13 centuries ago. The Battle of Karbala took place on Muharram 10, in the year 61 of the Islamic calendar in Karbala. On one side were 72 supporters and relatives of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’s grandson Hossein Ibn Ali; on the other side was a 30 thousand-strong military detachment from the forces of Yazid I, the Umayyad caliph.

Imam Hussein (the grandson of Prophet Muhammad) and his companions were martyred on Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram (Lunar month), which falls on 24th October 2015 this year. Muharram ceremonies symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against tyranny, the cause for which Imam Hussein was martyred.
